Brownfield Rejuvenation

AWT has the experienced technical team to focus on mature asset rejuvenation through innovative and cost effective technology solutions with emphasis upon appropriate applications for both onshore and offshore fields.

There are approximately 80% of oil and gas fields worldwide which can be characterised as mature or highly depleted., efforts to sustain or optimise production from these declining assets are continuously being pursued.

The key solution for brownfield rejuvenation which AWT and its technical partners are able to provide is a Barge-Based Rigless Utility Vessel (RUV). The packages are supreme for offshore operational solution, and consequently are proficient to leverage the integrated services management activity, specifically:

  • Facilities and Wellhead Maintenance

Facilities & wellhead maintenance is a crucial aspect of effective facilities & well integrity and a regime of regular facilities. Generally facilities & wellhead maintenance would be conducted as a separate activity however on a campaign basis, facilities & wellhead maintenance can be incorporated as a concurrent activity to ensure safe intervention activities.
  • Slick-line

Slick-line operations are required for well interventions to assess well condition, capture data, manipulate downhole tools and set isolation devices. It is possible to conduct slick-line activities on remote wellhead platforms whilst major interventions are being conducted from the RUV.
  • Electric-line

Electric-line services may be required for more complex well activities for data gathering, perforating, logging etc. It is possible to provide integrated slick-line and electric-line units but for efficiency of concurrent operations, separate units may be preferred. Many activities performed historically on electric-line can now be performed with memory tools on slick-line dependent on the nature of the well activity.
  • Pumping & Cementing

Some well activities may require cementing and/or pumping of fluids at high rates and pressures. An electronic controlled cementing unit will be required on most of the intervention campaigns. Bulk cement and fluids supply will be provided by support vessels.
  • Coiled Tubing

Coiled tubing activities are generally broken into two categories – in well-bore and external to existing wellbores. For initial activities all CT work would be limited to operations within existing wellbores. External may include exits drilled from existing wellbores using coiled tubing.
  • Wireline Tractor

Wireline operations are generally limited to wells with deviations less than 75 degs. For higher angle and horizontal wells, many activities historically requiring coiled tubing can now be performed using tools deployed on downhole tractors on electric-line.
  • Heavy Duty Fishing Package

Many wells have been rendered unusable due to downhole obstructions (fish) which have proven difficult to recover with conventional wireline tools. The RUV with integrated servicing solution will be fitted with a state-of-the-art heavy duty fishing tool package optimised for any well configurations.
  • Hydraulic Workover

Larger and more complex well workovers may require removal and replacement of individual well strings or the entire downhole completion. This may particularly be the case for well abandonment and slot recovery operations. The RUV will be able to provide and support full well workover activities incorporating hydraulic workover services
  • Artificial Lift Optimisation

Many of the activities will include those required to optimise well performance. In some cases after analysing well performance, changes to the artificial lift system may be required. Most wells of gas lifted and real-time optimisation and replacement of gas lift valves will be a critical service. The RUV can have an artificial lift workshop for the repair, maintenance and recharging of gas lift apparatus. This workshop can also serve as a clean room for downhole gauge and other sensitive equipment servicing.
  • Production Allocation Testing

There a number of existing platform facilities which do not have the capability to conduct independent testing of individual wells or production horizons. This data is critical to enabling assessment of reservoir performance (and hence optimisation) and accurate production allocations. The RUV integrated servicing solution capable to conduct short-term production testing operations on individual wells with real-time data transfer from such activities to the onshore operations base. This service will also enable post completion clean-up of new wells reducing the time that drilling rigs are required over wellhead platforms.

In general, the RUV is proficient of operating independently to any production platform with heli-deck, large crane, accommodation, hospital and medical facilities, power and all related services. The vessel is able to perform well-based activities and concurrently platform maintenance, upgrade & underwater operations and is likely to be the central logistics and warehouse for campaign-based multiple activities on the primary platform and satellite platforms enabling efficient concurrent well servicing activities.
